Woodskills started 29 years ago in the Kawerau Forestry Headquarters. Due to the popularity, the event creator and organiser Tony Geor and his organizing committee rapidly grew the competition to a national event the following year, which has since then continued to grow.
Our growth is supported by donations from companies and organisations who sponsor the overall event or one of the 15 prize categories including youth or three special prizes that celebrate local woodcraft. This years special theme is 'kiwiana'.
